Jungle Halflings

  • Racial Statistics: +2 DEX, –2 STR, -2 INT, +2 CON
  • All other traits as normal

(The isolation and jungle has toughened these Halflings, but dulled their ability to perform complex actions, since they have reverted to a more simple lifestyle.)

Favored Class: Barbarian

Few halflings have taken permanent residence within the jungles of this continent because the inherent dangers of such places make their travels risky. Most of these families pass through the jungle for a good portion of the year, though they do not spend the entirety of their time within the dense foliage. Many consider the families that live within the jungle full time a little peculiar, as their life within the jungle have changed the way many of these Halflings deal with the world. Jungle Halflings have developed a system of living that eliminates the need for such things as houses and other dwellings. The most mobile of the nomadic families, jungle Halflings move from day to day, creating nests and shelters of thatch and leaves wherever they settle down for the night. These shelters are then abandoned when the families move on, left for nature to destroy in her own time. Jungle Halflings travel extremely lightly, often moving with nothing more than what can be carried on an individuals’ own back. Any kind of cart or other vehicle becomes impractical in the jungle depths. Extremely self-sufficient, these families have learned to craft anything they need out of the tough vines, creepers, wood and the animals that populate the forest. Armor is usually made from hide, bone or wood, and weapons are simple. Very little metal is used in any of their items, as the near constant jungle rain and humidity can corrode the toughest metals in very little time. These families are also considered the most inhospitable of the Halflings, as their constant roving affords them very little patience for the niceties and formality of guests. Very few things can cause them to cease moving along their day to day schedules. Comings of age celebration, a funeral, or a birth are the most common events that halt their movement. Trading is often limited to small things. The items and weapons they create, some exotic fruits and meats from the jungle interior, and spices and other flowers they harvest for alchemical and medicinal purposes provide enough resources for commerce.
