Throck-Badd

Social structure

Throck-Badd is too small to have a regular government at all. Still, because of the treaty of the 3rd and later the 5th council, it is responsible for having an official representative, in case the Kaerthia council is called. This position is held by the Mayor of Throck-Badd. Currently this is Janelisa Mars, who, unfortunately, is too busy with running his inn, to care for politics. The citizens agree on who is to be put into this position, but the interest in this is close to non-existent, as the mayor has no practical power at all. The real power in Throck-Badd lies in the hands of the Throck-Badd Trading Company. The company does not only own all trading and manufacturing establishments in Throck-Badd. It also provides the towns “army”. These troops are recruited from everywhere and their main task is to at least attempt to control piracy and smuggling around Throck-Badd. However, rumours say, that if you would ban every mercenary within the ranks of the Trading Companies guards, the number of pirates and smugglers would decrease in just the exact value.

History of Throck-Badd

  • 434 Founded as a military strategic outpost by Galdor to surround Caddancia.
  • 455 After the Galdor troops were defeated at the Dragons March, the remaining troops of Throck-Badd quickly surrendered and all citizens were returned to Galdor. Throck-Badd itself was destroyed.
  • 858 After the End of the 2nd Capitol War in 856, Throck-Badd was refunded with the Status of an independent city. Without Galdor being allowed to control, help or influence Throck-Badd, the town did only play a small to no role in Kaerthia history.
  • 1574 Naval units from Ashandor and land troops from Caddancia, led by Sirimon of Galdor repelled a large group of Pirates controlling Throck-Badd. Since the mid-fifties of the 16th century, pirate activity in and around Throck Badd had increased a lot. The Pirates were led by Captain Gasher Bloodyhand, who has taken control over Throck Badd a few years before. When the Pirates extended their activity on the rivers leading into the continent, Sirimon convinced the other Human Towns of the necessity of an intervention. The conflict itself was short and swift. Although the Pirates had remarkable success in attacking unprepared ships or settlings, they had no chance against the organized forces of Kaerthia.
  • 1651 Throck Badd got attacked by strange but apparently intelligent Sea-creatures. Until today nothing further is known about the attackers, who left just as suddenly as they arrived.
  • 1856 The Throck-Badd Trading Company is founded. However, the idea of turned out to be a complete disaster in the beginning. Neither the other Human towns, nor the dwarves from Natu-Dum, nor the other races, showed much interest in trading with the still unimportant and poor citizens of Throck-Badd. Still the Trading company did survive somehow and when in
  • 1974 The Arau Mordin decided to get into contact with the other races of Kaerthia, the star of the Trading Company began to rise. It was a mixture of luck and talent, that it was the small and unimportant Throck-Badd Trading company who managed to sign the profitable treaty with the Arau-Morndin. Luck, because an expedition from Throck-Badd, exploring the Icy Lands to its North were seen by the Half-Orcs and therefore contacted first, but also the resentments against Orcs, or Half-Orcs in this case, still evident in the dwarfish society that kept those from being open towards a possible trading agreement. The Láelus from Jiv’elgg Che’el did also show only little interest in such a deal, so that the way was clear for the Trading Company to become what it is today.
It also lead to the latest funding of a small settlement close to the Arau Morndin to improve the trading relalions.
