Nimeth

Alignment: Chaotic Neutral

Domains: Trickery, Travel, Chaos

Patron goddess of rogues and tricksters, she believes that there is nothing that is hidden, nothing that cannot be found…and stolen. She loves rogues who take outrageous risks. Those that take the greatest risks often receive the greatest rewards. Whether it is breaking into the highest, most secure room of the kings keep to lift a single gem from his personal collection, or delving into the deepest dungeon to find some artifact or other that has been hidden for millennia Nimeth finds only joy in those rogues that are willing to dare such ventures. Priests of Nimeth are often the leaders of rogue guilds, and adventuring guilds, surrounded by those daring enough to take whatever quests the guild might set before them. The more successes the adventurers attain in their endeavors, the riskier the assignment given.

Description

Nimeth has no goal in her existence as a deity other then to have as much fun as she can. She will continue with her tricks and thievery as she always has until she is again forced to move on. She often doesn’t keep her trophies but instead places them in obscure places for others to find, or she uses them as bribes to assuage the anger of the gods she has upset along the way. Ssrigg’nala and Serena usually are quite forgiving of Nimeth’s exploits, as they find her love of life infectious. These two goddesses are willing to let Nimeth get away with whatever she has managed to acquire this time. Other gods are not nearly so forgiving of Nimeth’s activities though; Berur has sought Nimeth’s head ever since she stole one of his favorite kegs while he was otherwise occupied with Ssrigg’nala. He feels she took advantage of his momentary weakness, and so has never let the issue go. Karronth as well has sought to bring Nimeth to his divine justice, but he has never managed to find enough evidence to judge her supposed crimes. Nimeth looked to the refugees with anticipation, as they provided her a new source of fun. She thinks of them as a whole new group of people she can play tricks on, not to mention there are those adventuresome souls that would follow her ways and seek out more and greater challenges and risks to subject themselves to. Nimeth finds such people through her own brands of tests and challenges, finding those with the spark to become part of her quest for fun.

Temple Structure

Nimeth has no organized temple or priests. Anyone that chooses to take risks with their lives for their own amusement and gain can fall into her service. Many do not know they are in her service, they merely find their lives becoming more and more interesting as greater risks are placed in their paths. If they succeed at these risks greater rewards are theirs for the taking. Others directly worship Nimeth, deliberately taking greater risks in the hope that they may attract the attention of their goddess. Still others worship in another fashion, building the most difficult, tricky and infuriating challenges they can. These challenges present themselves as dungeons, labyrinths, hedge mazes or any other structure that can hide a trap of puzzle. Often the most meager of rewards are hidden at the center of such mazes, taunting the worshippers of the goddess, or the goddess herself to challenge the labyrinth for no real reward. Those who take the greatest risks can occasionally draw the attention of the goddess herself. These fortunate few are given her ultimate reward, they join her in her celestial quests for fun and adventure, seeking whatever risks they can find through all the celestial realms.

Worshippers

Worshippers of Nimeth all are chaotic by nature, the life of constantly seeking out risk and adventure often means they are breaking the laws of whatever lands they pass through. All races can worship Nimeth, though adventurous nature of the Halflings, along with their innate luck makes them more common among the ranks of rogues and adventurers that take the risks that attract Nimeth’s attention. Many of these rogues become ‘Robin Hood’ types, taking risks in order to benefit those they feel need their help, most fitting Chaotic Good in alignment. Others merely do it for the thrill such risks can evoke within themselves, leaning more towards Chaotic Neutral as the pleasure and reward is all such people seek. Very few lean towards evil, as those are often too selfish, and find the rewards not worth the risks that Nimeth can place before her worshippers.
