93 Founded as a colony of Galdor, to find new room for the fast growing Galdor population. Little is know about the early years of Caddancia, as Galdor remained the only remarkable power during this time. The rise of Caddancia that led to the extraordinary status it has today began in
253 with two of the largest Galdor noble clans retreating to Caddancia, because of a defeat during the Galdor Civil War. At first, the old noble families were still watched with suspect and fear. Caddancia was not yet ready or willing to separate completely from Galdor and risk a militaristic conflict with the Capitol, especially as there were no troops to defend Caddancia. Still, the noblemen were able to convince the Caddancia population of the necessity of an independent army against Galdor hegemony. Early Caddancia army was nothing more then a colourful band of vagabonds, rogues and other shady figures. But when Caddancia was besieged in
344 by a Galdor army, returning from Ashandor and the Caddancia army surprisingly celebrated its first victory, the reputation of the soldiers and its leaders, the former Galdor noblemen grew extreme, which led to a long period of an expansionist politics within Caddancia.
375 Foundation of Kirminstor. The foundation of a Caddancian colony was not only an obvious insult towards Galdor pretensions, but also a catastrophe for early Caddancia expansionism. Kirminstor was never able to grow until its early end, as Caddancia lacked the organization and unity required for such a mission during this time. Kirminstor was finally destroyed by the eruption of a nearby volcano. Today, only ruins of the Kirminstor keep show any sign of the former colony. Still the expedition had one positive side-aspect for Caddancia. The relationship towards the dwarves of Natu-Dum was improved. Trade agreements were made and later also militaristic alliances. That was to play an important role in later incidents.
Nevertheless, Caddancia politics had failed. Not only the Kirminstor disaster, but also the disappointing results of the 2nd council, that ignored the question of a Caddancia independence from Galdor, led to a frustrated and aggressive mood among Caddancia people. The calls for war grew stronger and finally Caddancia troops attacked and occupied Ashandor in 451 leading to the →1st Capitol War.
451-455 Caddancia during the 1st Capitol War. The discussion about who was responsible for the outbreak of the 1st capitol War has been as emotional as fruitless.
Anyway, Caddancia felt surrounded by Galdor with Ashandor to the West, new founded Throck-Badd to the North, the desert to the East and Galdor itself to the South. After the occupation of Ashandor and the destruction of Throck-Badd, an alliance of Caddancia and the Natu-Dum dwarves, defeated isolated Galdor on the Dragon March fields. Caddancia was now the primary power in Kaerthia.
455-856 Caddancia after the 1st and during the 2nd Capitol War The Years following the victory over Galdor were a peaceful and prosperous time for Caddancia. Old trading relationships, for example with the dwarves, were expanded and fortified, and new agreements were made. Many of the Gnomes moved from Galdor to Caddancia to improve their options for inventing and experimenting. The picture of Caddancia as known today originates from this time. Political power though remained in the hands of the victorious militaristic leaders of the war. However, they failed to adapt the new situation. Their traditional concept of ruling was not suitable for the new face of Caddancia anymore. Influences from Ashandor, Elves and Gnomes, a new powerful class of incredibly rich merchants, this and more led to discontent among the citizens of Caddancia towards their government. Since the beginning of the 7th Century, the times for Caddancia became unstable and dangerous. Several attempts for reforms were made. Almost none were realized. Power switched from one group to another, the 2nd Capitol War begun and if it wasn’t for the inability of Galdor nobility to build a united force, Caddancia would have fallen. Still the efforts necessary to survive were extreme. Galdor troops were bribed, when militaristic power wasn’t sufficient. And often, Caddancia leaders demanded the same. The City’s wealth faded.
In 812 the first mayor of Caddancia was elected. But still disunity among Caddancian people and corruption during the election didn’t lead the town to its former strength. Finally in 856 Mayor Barnard had to sign a peace treaty that basically gave Caddancia independence but ended its overwhelming position in Kaerthia, as it was to negate all claims towards Ashandor and Galdor.
But the negative results for Caddancia didn’t lie mainly in its loss of political power. Worse was, that once again, Galdor became the main place for science and culture. The gnomes and other races left Caddancia towards Galdor one after another, so today Caddancia has lost most of its former glory, although the trained eye might get an image of how beautiful the city once was during its climax between the 5th and 8th century.
1000-1127 The intervention of the gods caused more chaos in Caddancia then in all other cities. As there were all kinds of different groups, with different interests, there were all kinds of religious movements, meant to help fulfilling these interests as well. The problems in Caddancia, however, tended to affect all of Kaerthia religious movements, as the Caddancian people sought to build alliances with other religious groups outside Caddancia. This led to the 4th council of Kaerthia in1125, where official religions were defined and the cities obliged themselves to maintain equal right and freedom for those religions.
Two years later, in 1127, Caddancia society was divided into four several groups, with each group having a representative organ in official meeting: The four assemblies. In the following two decades, Caddancian law was further adjusted, until it reached its current status.
1343 Western Caddancia destroyed by a fire. What caused the fire is unknown until today and led to all kind of accusations for a long period of time. Remarkable, however, is the fact that Caddancia was unable to repair the destruction the fire had caused, so that the current city is still smaller then it has once been
1540 Caddancia renewed its alliance with the dwarves of Natu-Dum. The reason was that Galdor held its council in the rooms reserved for the Kaerthia council. However the conflict was ceased by Sirimon of Galdor, who managed to make Caddancia sign the treaty of the 5th council in 1562.
1781 Caddancia is struck by a deadly epidemic. Although it only lasts half a year until a cure was found by priests of Serena, more then one third of Caddancia population died of the effects. The quickness with which a cure was found however saved other cities from the same fate, as the losses there were not large.
