====== Halflings ====== The Halflings that participated in the final battle of Benzor were the sturdiest and bravest of their folk. When the traitors turned, very few of these small folk were among them, most halflings continued to fight grimly, aware that failure meant loss of hearth and home. When the refugees arrived in the new continent the Halfling folk were instrumental in their survival. The Halfling’s talent for farming and cultivation ensured a quick harvest so that the refugees had the food necessary to survive the harsher months. The Halflings revealed their inner strength and persistence during the time when the refugees established themselves in the new lands. Halfling parties initially set out to find viable settlements and additional places where they could create more farmland. They acted as scouts and explorers, their diminutive stature made it easier for them to traverse some of the denser wilderness in their quest for new homes. The efforts of these small folk to help and support their society and others resulted in a general respect and appreciation for them by all races even into present day. Many Halfling descendants of those that helped the refugees establish their place in the new lands are now prestigious landowners and farmers. Though some continue to draw on the respect and prestiges earned by their antecedents, about half of Halflings have returned to the simple lifestyle that their forefathers lived in the old lands, long ago. This community does its best to keep things simple, establishing small Halfling communities here and there of farmers, brewers and the other simple jobs that so enriched their lives before now. The other half have learned to live as nomadic clans. The nomad families honor their ancestors’ explorations of the new lands by living off it as they move from place to place. Nomadic Halflings usually dedicate their worship to the goddess Balani Lightfoot. They live her ideals by making sure they do not stay in one place too long, so their lives are ever changing; they never draw more resources from any one place than the land can stand. These nomadic families have spread all over the continent, and over the hundreds of years many of their family customs and traditions become shaped by their nomadic roving. These families can be found in every environment in the new lands, from the deserts of Arenarius to the jungles of Rassin. A couple of families have even included the Underdark in their nomadic routes, where they learn to harvest resources from dark stone places in their travels.\\ * Desert Nomads * Arctic Halflings * Jungle Halflings * Travelling Halflings
