Roleplay and You

Post by Lliira »

There is a similar topic elsewhere, but everyone can always use a refresher course:

"Know the Difference Between You and Your Character -
Hopefully this has become obvious by now, but it bears repeating: You are not yourself when role playing. You are playing a role. Surprisingly, this can be quite difficult for many new players to grasp at first.

You have to start thinking about how your character would do things, rather than how you would do things. For this to work, it’s key that you understand exactly how you and your character differ. Think about your character’s moral alignment, age, gender, upbringing, beliefs, and personality. If at least two or three of these aren’t completely different from your real self, then it’s back to the drawing board."

This is directed at tabletop players, but much of it can be applied to NWN: http://www.nerdsourced.com/better-rolep ... ding-flow/

Your level is the LEAST important thing in-game, it is meaningless in a roleplay setting. Please refrain from talking about it in-game.

These are things to avoid, if you wish to be a good roleplayer. In other words, "Don't be this guy.":

Min-Maxing
The practice of playing a role-playing game, wargame or video game with the intent of creating the "best" character by means of minimizing undesired or unimportant traits and maximizing desired ones. This is usually accomplished by improving one specific trait or ability (or a set of traits/abilities) by sacrificing ability in all other fields. This is easier to accomplish in games where attributes are generated from a certain number of points rather than in ones where they are randomly generated.

Please, PLEASE do not ask roleplayers for constant Out Of Character resurrections. You are disrupting their immersion in the game. If you choose not to roleplay, that's your choice, but please do not disrupt other players' roleplay. You may speak to the guardian statue in Fugue, or wait for a DM to help you. Or log another character to play, in the meantime.
