Nordock Storytelling

Post by raradra »

Story that was emailed to me for consideration in the top story contest back in '04/'05

I’m gathering these pieces from my imagination, from a dream I had earlier
and some scattered pieces of interest I have. This is a quest that is meant
to be held for character levels 6-10, I assume, in the events server, and
would go somewhat like this:

The travellers meet and team up, when a gnome thief/illusionist (level 8)
arrives to them. If given the character, I’ll be happy to attend to his
part, for he will stick around the group for some time. He tells that his
brother is being held in the Fugue Plane, and that they cannot afford his
payment. It can be collected in several ways. A smaller side quest, held in
Trondor, could be one.

When the gnome is bailed out, the brothers agree to tell what killed him. It
appears from their words, that in the area of Tobaro there are found a swarm
of undead, which are so many, that they wonder, where all the dead have come
from. They make their way torwards the town Tobaro, after getting no more
information whatsoever.
The first gnome goes off with the band, as the second one announces he has
business (or he promises to venture there to ask the Nordock Officials about
the matter) in the Capital city of Brosna (I just can’t get enough of that
phrase!) and sets off.

I’m thinking about deserting all the places of normal encounters, and in
some cases replacing them with undead ones.

When the band arrives to the very nearabouts of the pass to Trommel Wood,
they are attacked by the first zombies and a few zombie warriors. Nothing is
heard of the second gnome by then. They deal with the pack, and keep their
speed up northwards. They now keep getting ambushed by undead, but with no
too incredible effort. The battles get harder every time, and by the time
they arrive to the Trommel Pass’s final quarter, the battle is quite
draining.

When they reach South Tobaro Plains, they are now attacked by a huge lot of
normal zombies (‘Cause I want ‘my heroes’ to be battling against a hellish
swarm of something that is cut aside like hey. I’ve always wanted to do that
in Neverwinter Nights.)

The lot is commanded by a small, blue wyvern that casts spells that can be
(after a hard battle) dealt with the 6-10 levelers. The battle will be
sucking the life out of the adventurers like a giant mosquito, and while
they pay great losses, they gain victory. There should be a post-defeat
conversion with the wyvern, in which he will bring dear frighten to the
adventurers. He says, that the humans sacrificed were in the way of mother
Earth’s full grace, and that they serve her better as her guardians. He
suggests that the adventurers are intruding a beautiful phenomenon of
nature, and it should not be disturbed. He also brings a feel of the thing
being worthier than human lives, and some (Druids, rangers) are left with
the feeling, that they are defiling Bria’s machinations.

Entering the city they are forced to fight what they now realise being the
undead cityfolk of Tobaro. (Love the creeps they may get from seeing a
master fletcher’s corpse attacking them, etc. This should add some gruesome
feeling to it!)

They search from house to house, battling the former citizens of Tobaro in
every turn, and manage to find that the Temple of Life is locked, and
guarded by another wyvern. (With a little more challenge than the other
before.) By this time, the battles should be somewhat very difficult.

Not being able to get in they keep on looking to the buildings, and find
some of the NPC’s to be hidin’ in the Drowned Rat tavern. (The Priest of
life, the market suare traders, the guard captain, the “The sewers are
death, death to us all!!”-woman and the leven ranger from outside the city
walls, so that the adventurers can be returned to the normal servers more
easily.) The adventurers rest, and are told of how things.

The day was filled with energy, smells from the bakery, singing birds in
their nest in the rooftops of the town, and kids running around with smiles
on their faces, like the day was a dream. But it was all seized, when a pack
of mysterious raiders, perhaps the undead, and the town was quickly brought
to its knees. Percy Garekkin, or whichever of the Garekkin brothers resides
in Tobaro, evaded the few NPCs to the Drowned Rat, and hid there, as the
town around them was soon turned into a nightmare. He also says, that as he
led the people in, he heard the leader of the raiders, which he did not see,
saying to someone else, that “I’ll take my boys out of the sunlight.”

The party perhaps gets the hint and wanders undeground, where they find
undead as well as drow(!).

The drow are lead by a drow necromancer, who proves to be a difficult
battle, or a tight conversion. She could reveal, that she has brought her
kin to Tobaro to escort a beautiful thing that must be charised over
humanlives. She proves to be a handmaiden to the creature for her own will,
and that the evil of the drow touches her not like the beast does. She has
turned her face to Bria, the mother of the being.

If the band attack her, the first gnome turns against them, saying, that he
is lured by the words of the drow, and will fight any who try to attack a
miracle of nature, and that he cares not for the drow, and hates the undead,
but the beast is the last of his kin. He tries to talk to the band as he can
to turn their heads.

The drow hands over, or leaves it in her dead hands, the key to the Temple
of Life. And, as you can imagine, the troop ventures there as quickly as
they can.

Inside, they find the being. It is an ancient, white wyrmmother, that has
just given labour to a pack of eggs. She is very powerful, but the labour
has taken her strength, and all she could provide was a difficult battle,
instead of an overpowering anhilation over the band of heroes. The heroes
are told, that the eggs are last of the wyrms kind, and that she has lived
in another plane for centuries, but had to give labour to the eggs on earth,
for otherwise the young would perish at their first gasp for air. She also
reveals, that she will die anyway in age, in a few years.

The being is utmostly selfish thing, that cares only for herself and the
last young of her kin, but she is not ‘evil’ in the traditional purpose, no
evil destructor, only a mother that loves her pups over some bugs
(Humanoids).

The heroes can slay the beast, but they can take the eggs of the pups to the
Benzor Mountains icecavern to be born and continue the family of the unique
beast, banishing their mother back to the plane she came from. Or they can
do both. They can also carry the eggs to be destroyed by the Priest of Life,
and the beings reign for good.

Now, this is only a thing in my dreams and such, and editable and addable,
but whaddya say, friends? Suggestions. Opinions. Bring ‘em on.

yes it was but most submissions were sent to me right on Nordock.net and are long since lost. These 2 I posted were ones that had been sent to an old email account of mine and I stumbled upon them while looking for something else :)
